Western Blotting

To further characterise antibodies it is recommended that they are tested against transfected cells and positive and negative control cell lines or tissues (if available) by Western blot.  OxFabs has access to a wide range of cell lines and tissues that may be available for antibody characterisation.  We can also test supernatants on material provided by the customer. The schedule below gives an idea of a minimum time scale for one western blotting experiment.

If cell lines are required these are grown to the appropriate density and prepared for western blot

4 days

Other samples required by customer are prepared on the morning of experiment

 1 hour

Samples are separated on pre cast polyacrylamide gels

 1 hour

Samples transferred to PVDF membrane and stained with appropriate antibodies

 3 hours

Membranes stained with chemiluminescent technology and exposed to radiography film

 2 hours - overnight

Results are typically obtained within two days depending on the number and type of samples required.
